HOW WE

CAN HELP

There are many ways in which the benefits of massage can improve the quality of your life. Many people think the benefits of massage are restricted to relaxation (which in itself is hugely important!). But there are numerous other health and well being benefits

DRY NEEDLING

REMEDIAL MASSAGE

Back Massage

Dry needling involves the use of solid filament needle to stimulate a twitch response to release muscle tension and pain. It helps to treat the limitations and restrictions that are found during physical assessment. For most conditions dry needling has little or no post treatment side effects with equal or better therapeutic effect than other manual therapies.
The needles are inserted into a myofascial trigger point to deactivate and resolve them. Your muscular pain then disappears.

What is a myofascial trigger point? A myofascial trigger point is a small muscle fibre contraction knots which are related to the production and maintenance of the pain cycle. It is usually painful to touch and may refer pain elsewhere.
Benefits of dry needling – Dry needling reduces the referred symptoms of trigger points and can be used to treat your:

  • Neck pain – wry neck, headaches or migraines

  • Muscular tightness – neck / lower back problems

  • Sport Injuries

  • Tennis/Golfers Elbow

  • Carpal Tunnel

  • Hamstring/Calf Strains

Remedial massage is the assessment, treatment and management of musculoskeletal conditions, which may cause muscular dysfunction and pain thus affecting movement and mobility. Therapists utilise a range of treatment techniques to restore and maintain the normal integrity of the soft tissue structures (muscles, tendons, ligaments and fascia). Trigger points within muscles are an example of muscle dysfunction that can cause deep aching pain, local tenderness, referred pain limiting strength and flexibility. Utilising palpation skills therapists can identify trigger points and deactivate them using various soft tissue manipulation techniques. Remedial Massage can treat the cause as well as the symptoms of a wide range of conditions. Some examples of conditions commonly treated are:

  • Neck & backpain

  • Headaches/Migraines

  • Sciatica

  • Chronic Overuse (RSI)

  • Tennis/Golfers elbow

  • Joint pain

  • Numbness and tinglin

  • General tightness

  • Carpal Tunnel

  • Knee, hip & ankle pain

  • Frozen shoulder

  • Elbow & wrist pain

As well as helping episodes of pain, Remedial massage can be a proactive way of maintaining the body’s harmony and preventing injuries from occurring.

CUPPING

KINESIOLOGY TAPING

Cupping involves placing a glass or plastic cup on the skin and creating a vacuum within the cup. Skin, muscle and connective tissue are drawn up into the cup and stretched, increasing the blood supply to the muscle and decreasing restriction between the layers of muscle and connective tissue. Myotherapists use cupping in areas of the body that are suffering from facial restriction. Fascia or connective tissue can be responsible for a number of injuries or conditions like, shin splint pain, ITB syndrome or “Runners Knee”, Plantar fasciitis and lower and upper back pain and stiffness.  Cupping on it’s own can often make a measurable improvement in the reduction of pain or increased flexibility of the tissue. However your therapist will most likely use some stretching or massage techniques prior to cupping. Once the fascia is warmed up and more flexible the muscles are often more responsive. The benefits of cupping include an increase in blood supply to muscle tissue, increased range of movement, decreased muscle tightness, decreased pain & can help speed up recovery time

Kinesiology Tape can be used to treat sports and non-sports injuries.
Unlike rigid tape, which many people find too stiff and restrictive, kinesiology tape is stretchy and is used as an additional adjunct to treat injuries, by reducing pain and accelerating recovery. It can also enhance performance by improving form and technique, as well as reducing post exercise soreness.
It has three main effects:
Fluid effect- improving blood and lymphatic flow in the taped area
Mechanical effect- improving the slide and glide between tissue layers
Neurological effect- altering the perception of pain and improving body awareness.
